How to Cite My Work & Use My Visuals

Hi! Glad you like my work and wish to use it. I’m happy to help.

Citation Requirements

If you’re referencing a page that already has citation instructions (like my FACS Cheat Sheet or Viseme Cheat Sheet), simply follow the existing citation instructions. If you’re citing a post, article, or visual from my site that doesn’t have built-in citation guidance, here’s how to credit it properly:

1. Use My Name (It’s Melinda Ozel)

List my full name (Melinda Ozel) as the author.

2. Include the Date

Use the publication or last updated date if listed. If unavailable, include the year you accessed the content.

3. Title the Page or Post

Use the official title if the page has one. If not, create a clear, descriptive one in quotation marks. Example: “Notes on Visemic Variability”

4. Include the URL

Use the full page link, not just the homepage. It should look something like this:
https://melindaozel.com/insert-specific-post/

Other Attributions

Want to Use My Visuals?

Please reach out for permission before using any images or graphics from my site in academic papers, slide decks, presentations, or whatever else you’re creating.

Why? Though 99% of the visuals are mine, a small percentage may be licensed, commissioned, or collaborative. Please double-check before using anything. You can contact me for clarity: facetheFACS@melindaozel.com

Coined Terms or Phrases

If you’re…

  • citing one of my coined terms, original frameworks, or theories (like “lip cincher,” “primary expressive outcome,” etc.)
  • heavily using my reference sheets

…cite it like you would any source-based term or model. Attribution builds trust.
